What does Gold Filled Mean
Gold-filled jewelry is more dependable than gold-plated or vermeil because 1/20 of the piece’s total weight is solid gold. Gold-plated items contain less than 1/200 of the piece's total weight in solid gold. It is also heat and mechanically bonded to enhance its strength. This means that gold-filled jewelry lasts much longer than pieces subjected to other coating methods, often lasting decades or a lifetime of wear before the base metal starts to show.
Gold-filled jewelry is marked with a “GF” and sometimes shows the proportion of gold in its total weight, presented as a fraction.
